Khruangbin & Leon Bridges – Texas Sun / Texas Moon

Have been a light Bridges fan for a long time, ever since taking a chance on seeing him live. But the music he’s been putting out in the last few years has been bumping him up higher in my conscious. Especially his collaborations. The Texas Sun EP is the first time I’d heard of Khruangbin. That EP is so good, made me go listen to, and fall in love with, their music. The marriage of these two is a phenomenal collaboration that creates something wholly unique. It’s almost as if prime era Merle Haggard / Waylon Jennings drove up to Stax to record with Booker T. & The M.G.’s, and have Johnnie Taylor sing over top.

Both albums are drenched in soul, funk, with some frayed edges of 70s country. If you make a playlist of both EPs together, I swear it creates a perfect cruising soundtrack. Be that on a warm summer evening around town, or an autumnal Sunday afternoon out in the country. It fits.

Makes the playlist: Texas Sun, Midnight, Doris, Mariella
